Wankhede presents caste papers to SC panel

Narcotics Control Bureau Mumbai Zone Head Sameer Wankhede, who is fighting allegations that he forged his documents, met National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairman Vijay Sampla on Monday and submitted his caste papers. Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik has alleged that Wankhede, after clearing the UPSC exam, forged his caste certificate and other documents to get the job of an IRS officer under the SC quota.

Malik has also alleged that Wankhede is a Muslim by birth.

Wankhede had complained to the NCSC against Malik’s allegations. “Sameer Wankhede has presented his case before us. They have submitted all relevant documents including their SC certificate obtained in 1995, their divorce papers and their marriage registration, which took place under the Special Marriage Act, which is exclusively for inter-religious marriages, as well as their Birth certificate is also there. Says he is a Hindu. Now we will start the verification of all the documents. He has told us that he belongs to the Mahar caste,” said Sampla. He said that the commission has the right to verify the documents related to caste in any complaint or matter.

Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan is heading the probe into the Wankhede Cruise drugs case. The NCB has ordered a vigilance inquiry into allegations leveled by a witness of an extortion bid of Rs 25 crore by some agency officials, including Wankhede, to release Khan.
