Retail workers have become the target of wild shoppers with death threats, violent attacks and even angry customers refusing to follow Covid rules.

Business owners said they had ‘not seen anything like it’ in the two decades since they opened their Dymox book store in a busy shopping centre. Melbourneis CBD.

Retail employees said they feel more ‘like a bouncer’ than shop assistants because of the increasing number of aggressive customers.

A female employee of a nearby Victoria’s Secret store, who asked a masked shopkeeper to check-in, was thrown at her face with a pile of clothes and then spit on her.

In another shocking incident, a male staff member tasked with implementing QR check-in fainted.

Horrifying footage shows a shopkeeper attacking the employee at the top of an escalator, leading him to the bottom of the stairs with his motionless body.

On the same day, two other staff members were also attacked.

One was slapped in the face by an older woman and the other time a ‘well dressed middle aged man’ attacked the young, frightened worker.

Melissa Traverso, owner of the Dimmox franchise, told A Current Affair, ‘It’s a very bad day to have three physical attacks on innocent booksellers just to do their job.

‘Who would have thought that working as a bookseller in a bookstore would be a dangerous profession.’
