Vadodara: Woman and daughter die after Garba, investigation begins

Vadodara city police have started an investigation into the deaths of a 36-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter in the early hours of Monday after participating in a Garba festival.

According to police, Shobhana Patel, a woman who performed garba till midnight, and daughter were taken to a private hospital where they were declared brought dead on arrival. Sama police station in Vadodara city registered a case of accidental death and started investigation. The woman’s husband Tejas has been taken into custody for questioning.

Bharat Rathod, Assistant Commissioner of Police, H Division, said the police were waiting for the medical test report. He said, ‘We are not able to tell the cause of death at the moment. The husband said that the woman and the daughter were taken to a private hospital at around 2 am on Monday after suffering some discomfort. He was declared brought dead on reaching the hospital,” he said.

“We have found some marks on the neck of the woman, but they are not obvious strangulation marks… We are waiting for the autopsy report. We have also sought first aid report from the private hospital where he was taken earlier,” Rathod said.

Shobhana’s brother Shailendra Baria has told police that he suspects that his sister and niece had wished him a “good night” hours before his death. Baria said, ‘I don’t think he died naturally. My sister has bruises on her neck. Just before leaving for his apartment, he wished me a good night and was completely fine. What went wrong within an hour or so. ”
