According to the police, complainant Ankur Soni, a resident of Maya Garden in Zirakpur, had handed over a short video clip of the incident to them. In the video clip of around 12.15 pm, the suspects are seen riding the i20 car.

Investigators said that Ankur Soni, in his complaint, told him that the incident happened when he was on his way towards Panjab University in two cars along with his cousins, wife and sisters. One of the cars being driven by Ankur Soni’s brother Vishal Soni was allegedly hit by a speeding 20 car near Matka Chowk intersection in Sector 17. The i20 then headed towards Sector 16, with both Ankur and Vishal chasing it. their respective vehicles. The brothers finally managed to locate the car in Sector 16.

The complaint further stated that there were four men and some women in the car. On seeing the brothers, the occupants immediately got out of the car and attacked them with baseball bats and bricks. In the ensuing chaos, the windows of Ankur’s car are damaged by a baseball bat. Ankur Soni further said in his complaint that the attackers snatched a bag from Vishal, which contained some documents and a mobile phone. Ankur claimed that the suspects were under the influence of alcohol.

Police said that Ankur later called the police emergency number 112 and two PCR vans reached the spot. After this the officials who reached the spot recorded the statement of the victims. Investigators said footage from CCTV cameras installed at the signal point near Sector 16, Sector 17 is being examined to identify the car and the suspects.
