Cairo: A US envoy on Saturday underscored Washington’s support for democratic transition to civilian rule in Sudan during talks with the head of its ruling council and the prime minister, the US embassy in Khartoum said.

It tweeted that Jeffrey Feltman, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, had also urged all parties to work together to implement Sudan’s constitutional declaration signed after the 2018-2019 uprising that resulted in President Omar Al-Bashir was deposed.

Feltman met with Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the Sovereign Council and his deputy general, Mohamed Hamdan Dagallo.

Tensions have now risen between power-sharing civilian and military leaders in the wake of an attempted military coup in September, which was foiled by the military.
