UP-Uttarakhand Pact: Rawat said- Dhami ‘surrendered’ to the interests of the state

Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has “surrendered” to his Uttar Pradesh counterpart over an agreement between the two states on division of assets and liabilities.

Uttarakhand was carved out of UP in 2000.

Rawat told reporters in Dehradun that the Congress would oppose it in the state assembly. The former CM said the party would also explore legal ways to oppose the agreement.

We allege that in the meeting held between the two Chief Ministers on Thursday, not only the present rights of Uttarakhand have been sold to Uttar Pradesh, but future rights related to water have also been handed over. The chief minister of a state is the chief minister of the state and is the advocate of the rights of his state. It appears that the CM of Uttarakhand has completely surrendered to the national stature of the CM of UP. I am sad that the CM of Uttarakhand appeared too small in front of the CM of UP in advocating for the welfare of Uttarakhand.

Rawat was referring to Dhami’s meeting with UP CM Yogi Adityanath on the distribution of assets and liabilities of the two states.

BJP Spokesperson Shadab Shams said Rawat is questioning the agreement only because he failed to do so during his tenure as CM.
