UP: Cabinet nod to start monsoon session from August 17

The state cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to convene the monsoon session of the state assembly from August 17. Now it will be sent for the approval of Governor Anandiben Patel. The last meeting of the assembly was held on March 4 and as per rules, the next session will have to be called within six months (September 4).

Monsoon session likely to be stormy as opposition parties like Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Congress is likely to try and take over the government COVID-19 pandemic pandemic, alleged atrocities against Brahmins and Dalits, farmers’ issues, law and order, and safety and security of women.

The Bhim Army, led by Chandrashekhar Azad, has announced that it will besiege the assembly during the monsoon session.

Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana (General).

Under this scheme, the government will provide Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to children or youth orphaned by COVID-19, child labourers, child beggars, children forced into prostitution, children of families where the main earning member is in jail, children whose Mothers are divorced, and people from families engaged in begging or prostitution. Support will be provided to a maximum of two children in a family.

Apart from children below the age of 18 years, the benefit will also be given to the students of applicable categories between 18 to 23 years if they have completed their class 12 education, and are enrolled in studies in government colleges, universities and technical institutions , or have passed NEET, JEE, CLAT or similar competitive examination. The assistance will be provided to these students till they attain the age of 23 years or till they obtain their degree, whichever is earlier.

The government already has a scheme, called Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana, which provides financial assistance of Rs 4,000 every month to destitute children who have lost both their parents to Covid-19 .

When asked about this, a senior government official said that the latest scheme is different and will be applicable to different categories of children and youth.

The state cabinet also approved a proposal to provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of home guard volunteers and other officers, who now receive honorarium in case of their death, and Rs 2.5 lakh in case of any disability during service. provide.

The government has decided to do away with the existing accident insurance scheme for such volunteers and employees.
