Ulema wants rapists to be publicly punished

ISLAMABAD: The rape of a girl in a madrasa in Rawalpindi has been condemned by religious scholars from different ideologies and demanded that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes should be publicly punished through speedy trial.

In a joint declaration issued after attending a consultation meeting held under the aegis of Pakistan Ulema Council on Sunday, he lamented the growing incidents of child abuse and harassment of women in Pakistan and said that the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of Pakistan should Immediate action should be taken against The convicts and their speedy trial orders.

He urged the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Ministry of Information to block obscene websites and obscene and nude content and advertisements on social media.

Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Inter-Religious Harmony, presided over the meeting.

Call to block porn websites

The Joint Declaration states that all sections of the society should play their part to protect the morality of Pakistani society. Sharia rules are clear to both men and women. He urged the government, judiciary and all sections of the society to play an immediate role at their respective levels for the restoration of social and moral values.

He called for strict action on the incidents of Minar-e-Pakistan, Noor Muqad case, Lahore, harassment of women in a rickshaw in madrassas and schools or colleges and punish the guilty.
