Two women fear being caught by three dogs near Odessa, Ontario. Abandoned Sunday – Kingston | globalnews.ca

Kim Vastino and Heather Patterson helped catch a wayward dog Old Wilton Road north of Odessa, Ont.

But despite best efforts, the dog was not caught until the Ontario Provincial Police brought in another dog that had been found wandering alone earlier in the day, according to Patterson.

“Kim Vastino and OPP officers went inside with dog number one, dog number two immediately came out and they were able to secure that dog,” Patterson said.

Patterson and Vastino say three dogs were caught on Sunday: one on Old Wilton Road, another on Simmons Road and a third on Creekford Road. According to Kim Vastino, all three dogs appear to be of the same breed, were recently born and had no dog tags to identify them.

“Usually you don’t see that many dogs abandoned at the same time. Usually it’s just one dog that wanders away from its owner,” Vastino said.

And while there has been no official confirmation that the dogs were abandoned, the two women’s concerns are not unfounded. Gord Hunter of the Kingston Humane Society says the issue of abandoned animals has become so problematic that they have put up a board at the shelter’s front entrance asking people not to abandon or abandon their animals here .

“I don’t know where it’s coming from. I do know that we’ve experienced it directly here, several groups of animals, including a recent group of mastiffs, that were abandoned near Division Street and 401 Gone,” Hunter said.

Hunter says abandoned animals are a growing issue and that the humane society has a hard time when it comes to animal care.

“When they come to us we don’t know what their history is,” Hunter said.

A mystery that, at least for now, surrounds three dogs found wandering alone on Sunday.
