Global News spoke to Barrett Miller, a wildlife expert, and said that the moose may find itself in a city when the moose population is high.

Miller said there’s a reason young moose appear in urban areas. “Young moose in search of new territory are often quite adventurous and will follow a green core in urban areas like the beautiful South Saskatchewan River.”

Miller said he had never heard of two moose coexisting in the same urban area, so this is a rare occurrence. It’s nice to have the feel of the city of Saskatoon, but it’s also scary, he said.

“Moose are one of the most dangerous animals in North America,” Miller said. “Just by size, they move fast, they’re wild, they look kind of weird but as fast as they can move, there are moose-injured people on the continent every year.”

To stay safe around moose, Miller says it’s best to keep a distance, stay inside, and notify emergency officials right away.

Saskatoon Police Service and conservation officers were able to capture the moose less than 3 hours after the initial report. The moose will be released to a safe place by the Ministry of Environment.
