Tunis: Tunisian President Kais Saied confirmed on Tuesday that a draft constitution slated for a referendum on July 25 would not establish Islam as a “state religion”.
“The next constitution of Tunisia does not mention a state where Islam is the religion, but an umma (community) whose religion is Islam,” he told reporters at the Tunis airport.
“Ummah and state are two different things.”
