Tourists reached Shimla to enjoy the snow; 700 roads closed in Himachal

Shimla, January 24

Tourists in large numbers thronged Shimla to enjoy the snowfall and the hotel on Sunday had around 95 per cent of the passengers.

On Monday also many tourists were reaching the hill state.

Dense fog engulfed Shimla and its adjoining areas on Monday and normal life was affected due to drizzle, hailstorm and snowfall.

The district police has issued an advisory for commuters to check the road condition before venturing out as many roads are still blocked due to snow.

Upper Shimla area is inaccessible by road as Theog-Chopal road near Khidki, Theog-Rohru road near Kharapather is blocked.

Theog-Rampur road near Narkanda and Shimla-Theog road near Kufri-Galu-Fagu have been closed and some of the closed roads within Shimla city are being cleared by NHAI, PWD and Municipal Corporation and police have cleared the people. Please do not drive on these roads.

The minimum temperature in Shimla fell to zero degree Celsius, while it was freezing cold in Kufri as the mercury remained at -3 degree Celsius. Shimla and Kufri received 15 and 14 cm of snowfall since last evening, while Khadrala 71 cm, Shilaro 29 cm, Kalpa 25 cm, Gondhala 20 cm, Sangla 19 cm and Manali 10 cm snowfall.

Naina Devi and Sangad received 52-52 mm of rain, followed by Dharamsala and Bilaspur receiving 40-40 mm of rain. 700 roads are blocked in Himachal.
