Tokyo 2020: Haryana will give Rs 50 lakh each to nine women hockey players of the state

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that the Haryana government will honor nine history-making women hockey players of the state with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh each.

“The Haryana government will award Rs 50 lakh each to nine members of the Olympic women’s hockey team, who are from Haryana,” Khattar tweeted.

She congratulated the Indian women’s team for the best ever performance in the ongoing Olympics, where It finished fourth, losing 3–4 to Great Britain in the bronze medal play-off match. in Tokyo on Friday.

The Indians played their hearts out and crossed the deficit of two goals to take a 3-2 lead at half time. But a desperate Great Britain gave their all in the second half and scored two goals and snatched the match from India’s hands.

In Haryana and Punjab, families of many players were glued to their television sets in anticipation of an Indian victory.

At the end of the game, Captain Rani’s father Rampal told the media at his Shahabad home in Kurukshetra that the Indian team played well and were unlucky to lose their first Olympic medal.

He said that the team’s performance in the Olympics will have a positive impact on the sport and it will encourage the youth to take up the sport.

Goalkeeper Savita Punia’s father Mahendra Punia said that there is no need to be disappointed.

“The outcome of the match may not have been in his favor, but he played really well,” he said.

Neha Goyal’s mother Savitri became emotional while watching the match.

Notably, most of the female hockey players come from humble backgrounds.
