TMC claims shortage of vaccine, wants exports to stop

“Today we mark #1YearOfVaccineDrive. I salute everyone involved in the vaccination campaign. Our vaccination program has added a lot of strength to the fight against COVID-19. It has saved lives and thereby protected livelihoods,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Sunday.

According to the Union Health Ministry, 156.76 million vaccines have been administered so far and more than 92 percent of India’s adult population has received at least one dose.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy said, “There are flaws in the vaccination work of the central government. Not everyone has been vaccinated yet. All the vaccines are in the hands of the central government. However, West Bengal is yet to vaccinate 40 per cent of its population as the Center has not been able to provide vaccines to the state. Instead, vaccines are being exported. If those vaccines were given to the states, it would already be possible to vaccinate everyone.

West Bengal’s Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Chandrima Bhattacharya slammed the central government and alleged that the state has become a victim of the Centre’s “vaccine politics”.

taunting BJPCongress state president Adhir Choudhary, led by the BJP government, said, “This is nothing more than the self-promotion of the central government.”

“Not everyone was vaccinated. But Modi is being thanked for picking up the phone! The government could not keep its word by drumming up lies. This is shameful!” CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said. He claimed that both TMC and BJP were equally responsible for low vaccination in the state.
