Three fatal overdoses reported during the past week in South Saskatchewan | globalnews.ca

Saskatchewan rcmp Is warning the public about the presence of dangerous illegal drugs in the South and South East regions of Saskatchewan after answering the three fatal overdose Suspected use of methamphetamine (meth) or fentanyl in the past week.

On February 9, the Assiniboia RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive person found in an Assiniboia home. EMS found the 21-year-old man dead at the scene. Police officers found crystals and an off-white powder believed to be meth or fentanyl.

On February 13, the Moosomin RCMP responded to an unresponsive man found in a hotel room in Moosomin. EMS and police officers attempted CPR but the 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers found a light-colored powder at the scene suspected to be meth or fentanyl.

The next day on February 14, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive female found outside a home in Preeceville. The 50-year-old woman was taken to Preceville Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It was there that officers found a similar white powder believed to contain meth or fentanyl.

RCMP said illegal drugs suspected to have been taken prior to the three fatal overdoses are believed to be available to the public in powdered form.

Autopsies and toxicology analyzes will be performed by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to confirm the nature and role of illicit drugs in the suspected overdose.

The Saskatchewan RCMP is urging the public who use illegal drugs to take special precautions when using the following:

  • never use alone
  • Tell someone you trust about your plans to use
  • always carry a naloxone kit
  • Call 911 if you suspect an overdose is occurring.
