According to a statement released by Brown’s campaign on July 6, Brown alleged that the CPC disqualified him to ensure Poilivar’s victory.

In a statement issued by the CPC on July 5, Ian Brody, chairman of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC), stated that since Brown’s campaign failed to provide information “about compliance with the CPC’s rules and procedures and/or satisfies concerns in the Canada Election Act,” he was disqualified.

Brown hired high-profile attorney Mary Henin to appeal to Brody and Chief Returning Officer Don Nightingale, despite the party’s election rules that all LEOC decisions are final.

In addition, the CPC has appointed an independent legal advisor to assist with the review, if any of its committees have jurisdiction to hear Brown’s appeal.

Reynolds did not mention Brown’s name or efforts to appeal his disqualification from the race for the leadership of Brampton Mayor.

On Monday, the CPC tweeted that more than 675,000 members were eligible to vote for the next party leader, which the party claims is “more than ever” in its history.

Members are being asked to complete their leadership election ballots and send them back to the party before 6 September. A winner will be announced on 10 September.

Brown’s name is still on the ballot despite his disqualification, which was announced in the mail to members after ballots had already been cast.
