The KCKPD is sued by Jay-Z’s Rock Nation, accused of covering up police misconduct

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) — Jay-Z’s philanthropic group, Team Rock, has filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department for receiving complaints of alleged misconduct against officers.

The group is battling for records from the department. In the suit, Team Rock claims: “The KCKPD has been assigned by the public to help maintain peace in the community. Yet, over the years, it appears that the authorities have abused their power and committed wrongdoing. indulge in.”

The filing argues, “The KCKPD has, however, refused to produce documents relating to any internal investigation into wrongdoing by specific members of the KCKPD, thereby preventing the public from assessing whether the KCKPD has Have adequately monitored its officers, investigated any complaints, and addressed allegations of misconduct against members of its force.”

The lawsuit cites several examples of alleged misconduct: “It is an open secret that the KCKPD has a history of misconduct.” It specifically names former police chief Terry Ziegler and his former partner Roger Golubsky as perpetrators of alleged misconduct, as well as recent complaints about the “Blue Code of Silence”.

The suit claims that no one within the department perpetrated the corrupt practices or even brought them to light.

The suit says the city has declined to produce documents in response to three requests.

KCTV5 has contacted the KCK Police Department for a response to the lawsuit. The county responded with this statement:

“The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS has received notice that Rock Nation has filed a writ of mandamus today in Wyandotte County District Court in connection with an earlier open records request. Unified Government has previously filed hundreds Has produced records requested pursuant to the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) with a few exceptions. For example, without specific circumstances, KORA does not require disclosure of personnel records and criminal investigation records. In response, Roc Nation has filed a 28-page petition that says there is a special interest in disclosing all records so that the public can seek justice. Once the petition is thoroughly reviewed, the unified government follows up by filing a response. will take action.”

KCTV5 News received the following statement from Lamonte McIntyre and Rose McIntyre, which states:
