TGA approves psychedelics for mental health

Australia has become one of the first countries to approve psychedelics for certain mental health conditions. From July, MDMA will be a new option for Australians with post-traumatic stress disorder. Patients may soon be able to consider the compound psilocybin, also known as magic mushroom, for depression. The Therapeutic Goods Administration says these are new avenues for patients who have not responded well to other treatments. The rules state authorized psychiatrists will prescribe medication in closely monitored situations.
