Texas City man on motorcycle says he was hit by driver who left him to die

TEXAS CITY, Texas (KTRK) – One person was seriously injured after a hit-and-run Tuesday evening in Texas City. He is now trying his best to find the driver responsible for this.

Franklin Joy’s jaw is dislocated. He has facial fractures including forehead and cheek bones, a broken nose, and has lost several teeth.

Franklin was on a motorcycle just before 7 p.m. when he hit a car on 9th Avenue and 3rd St. in Texas City. The driver took off. He doesn’t remember much detail other than the driver in the white car or the small SUV.

“She had the right of way. And she went to the stop sign,” her mother Daisy Joy recalled. “She stopped and left again. On the middle of the road, she stopped again, and that’s when he hit her.”

Franklin isn’t sure why the driver stopped a second time, but believes she must have panicked when she saw the motorcycle.

“Maybe she was trying to avoid me, but she still left me there,” Franklin said.

He said that the woman left him to die in the middle of the road, which is what bothers him the most.

“She knew she was bleeding there. He was there screaming for help,” Daisy said. “That person just left her like that. It’s hard for me.”

After just two nights in the hospital, he was released from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

His mother said, “We are thankful that he is alive. The doctor told me that anyone who is hurt should stay in the ICU for several months with a tube down their neck.”

Franklin said someone was in the passenger seat, and the accident happened in a residential area.

He wants whoever is responsible should come forward.

Franklin doesn’t have insurance. the family has established a gofundme For anyone who wants to donate.

If anyone has any information, you are asked to contact Texas City Police.
