Tennessee lawmakers push to replace Columbus Day holiday in favor of ‘Super Bowl Monday’

If the bill, officially known as SB1344/HB1463, were to pass, the Tennessee code would be amended to “remove the language, ‘The second Monday in October, to be known as ‘Columbus Day.'” and the language shall be replaced by inserting, “The first Monday following the Super Bowl, to be known as ‘Super Bowl Monday.'”

The idea of ​​making the day after Super Bowl Sunday an official holiday is not an entirely new concept.

At the federal level, declaring the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday hasn’t garnered much support yet. A petition was started in 2013, asking the White House to recognize the day as a national holiday, but it did not receive the necessary amount of signatures.

Cincinnati Bengals The AFC title was won the previous season, earning the team a trip to Super Bowl LVI. The Bengals eventually lost to the Rams, 20–23, but Cincinnati officials canceled school the Monday after the game.
