Telangana: 4 women die of complications after surgery at sterilization camp – India Times Hindi News

Hyderabad: Four women have died due to complications after undergoing double puncture laparoscopy (DPL) in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana. She underwent an operation at the women’s sterilization camp held on August 25 at the Civil Hospital, Ibrahimpatnam in the district.

He complained of acute gastroenteritis and died during treatment. Two deaths were reported on Tuesday, taking the death toll to four.

According to Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao, 34 women were operated in the camp. While 30 women were discharged, four complained of acute gastroenteritis and approached private hospitals for treatment.

All the four women died during treatment. Taking the incident seriously, the health department has suspended the superintendent of the civil hospital for life. Rao said the doctors who performed the surgery have been temporarily suspended.

The state government has ordered an inquiry to the Director of Public Health. He said that the condition of 30 women is stable, some of them have been shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad as a precautionary measure. The doctors were keeping a close watch on him.

Rao said that sterilization camps are a regular practice in which DPL, tubectomy and vasectomy surgeries are done. “Experienced doctors perform surgeries. This phenomenon is a deviation. We are trying to find out the reasons that led to this unfortunate incident.”

According to the official, DPL is the preferred surgery for women who want permanent sterilization with minimal complications. Women undergoing DPL can be discharged on the same day and resume their activities immediately.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each and two bedroom houses for the family of the deceased. The surviving children of the deceased will be given admission in residential schools.

Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident. It directed the District Collector of Ranga Reddy to take serious action against the defaulters and submit a detailed report by October 10.
