HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – The man who died in the Harris County Jail after a fight with his cellmate has donated his organs, according to his family.

On Thursday, lawyer for Fred Harris’ family shared the teen “did his last good before passing,” and his heart goes out to a young man in need.

The video above is from a previous story.

A 19-year-old with special needs was head-butted on a concrete floor, and court records also say he was kicked and stabbed by 25-year-old Michael Onabi.

The assault is one of several reported in prison, some against criminals and others against guards. Now, the Texas Rangers said they are investigating.

Harris’ family said the prison was partly to blame for his death because it is under-staffed. Meanwhile, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez issued the following statement in response:

“I am deeply saddened by the murder of Fred Harris at the hands of another man in our prison. My sincere sympathy and commitment to his family is that we will work with prosecutors to hold their killer accountable. While Mr. Harris dies It is the subject of several ongoing independent investigations, every indication at this point is that the level of staff at the prison played no part in the crime. It is true that our comrades who work in prison need more resources. I Will continue to work with the Court of Commissioners to address the work in terms of

Jail which is seriously overcrowded.”
