Taliban detain Afghan educator who spoke out on women’s school ban

Kabul: Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities have “beaten and detained” an academic who railed on live television against their ban on women’s university education, an aide said on Friday.
Veteran journalism lecturer Ismail Mashal caused a storm in December by tearing up his degree certificate on TV in protest against a decree ending higher education for women.
In recent days, domestic channels have shown Mashal carrying books around Kabul and giving them to passers-by.
