Swedish professional golfer henrik stenson Officials confirmed on Wednesday that he has been stripped of his Ryder Cup Europe captaincy.

According to multiple reports, Stenson, ranked 171st in the world, is expected to sign with the controversial Saudi-backed. LIV Golf Invitational Series,

“In light of the decisions made by Henrik regarding his personal circumstances, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfill certain contractual obligations for Ryder Cup Europe, which he took as captain on Tuesday 15 March. The announcement was made before 2022, and therefore it is not possible for him to continue in the role of captain,” Ryder Cup Europe said. Statement,

The statement added that a new captain for Team Europe would be named “at an appropriate time”.

CNN has reached out to Stenson and LIV Golf for comment.

The third LIV event is next week in Bedminster, New Jersey. The circuit announced Tuesday the 45 players who will compete, with three more golfers to be named “in the coming days.”

Stenson has played five Ryder Cup matches, where his overall score is 10-7-2. He hid the winning putt in his 2006 debut.

The 2023 Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy from 25 September to 1 October next year.
