Kannan, who has been in ill health for several years and has been receiving palliative care at Full Sutton Prison, East Yorkshire, has always maintained that she had no involvement in Ms Lamplaug’s death.

Ms Lamplaug’s parents died without finding out what happened to their daughter, whose body was never found.

While serving as a detective superintendent for the Metropolitan Police, Mr. Dickey investigated Ms. Lamplugh’s case in the early 2000s, during which he was convinced that Kannan had murdered him.

Mr Dickey also pleaded guilty at Kannan’s doorstep for the murder of Sandra Court, a 26-year-old Bournemouth insurance clerk whose body was found in a waterlogged ditch on the Avon Causeway in May 1986.

‘There is a possibility that he’ [Cannan] He never knows what he knows to die without saying,’ Mr. Dickie told Mirror.

John Cannon, 68, was named by police as the prime suspect in the disappearance of 25-year-old Suzy Lamplaug in Fulham, west London in July 1986, but the CPS said they had insufficient evidence to prosecute. he’s on his deathbed now

He continued: ‘The problem is no one can force them to tell us what happened in the Suzy Lamplaug and Sandra Court relationship.

‘I firmly believe that he is responsible for the deaths of both of those girls and I know there may be other victims.

‘ When he was interviewed in 2001, he told me, “There are some things I haven’t been caught for”.

‘It may well be that he is referring to those or other victims.

‘There’s no doubt about it: John Cannon is a serial sex offender and a convicted murderer.’

Canaan was sentenced to life in 1989 for the 1987 murder of 29-year-old Shirley Banks of Bristol.

Previously, he was also convicted of raping a woman in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, and is suspected of having committed several other sexual assaults.

Cold case: Suzy Lamplaug’s disappearance in July 1986

Ms Lamplug went missing on a summer night in West London when Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach topped the UK charts.

The estate agent had visited a ‘Mr. Keeper’ to show him around a house in Shorolds Road, Fulham.

After she went missing, her white Ford Fiesta was found outside a property for sale in Stevenage Road, about a mile and a half away.

The doors were open, the handbrake was off and his purse was found in the pocket of the side door.

A photofit of ‘Mr. Keeper’ was released, but police did not name Kannan as the prime suspect in the disappearance and murder of Ms. Lamplaug until 2002.

However, the CPS said there was not enough evidence to charge him.

Detectives have not dropped the case, having only conducted a series of excavations three years ago in search of the body, including in Worcestershire.

A year ago, in 2018, the garden of Kannan’s mother’s previous home in Birmingham’s Sutton Coldfield was searched.

Kannan was eventually arrested in 1987 for the murder of 29-year-old Shirley Banks. She was convicted and given three life sentences for her kidnapping and murder, which bore similarities to Suzy.

His whole life charge was later reduced to a minimum sentence of 35 years.

In 2019, when police were still searching for Suzy’s body and her health was failing, Kannan again denied any knowledge of the 25-year-old’s fate, accusing the police of making her a scapegoat and Accused of trying to curtail his parole prospects.

By then Kannan was suffering from partial paralysis and after a stroke he needed to use a wheelchair.

Retired detective Jim Dickey, who spent six years investigating Suzy’s kidnapping, said: ‘Cannon is still a suspect in the disappearance and murder of Suzy Lamplaug.

‘He is extremely manipulative and should not be trusted.’
