The Saskatoon Fire Department received several calls regarding a structure at around 9:55 p.m. Saturday fire In block 10 of Westview Place.

Firefighters worked to ensure that the fire did not spread to other units and also had to work around several used needles, which were eventually extinguished after 11 p.m.

An investigation into the fire found that the unit was empty but not safe, and that someone was seen in the unit around 6:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire in the bedroom is believed to be suspicious. The damage is estimated at approximately $75,000.

Crew also responded to a separate fire at a shop on the 900 block of Valley Road at around 7:15 p.m.

A recreational vehicle and some pallets caught fire when firefighters arrived, and the flames spread to the exterior of the building.

That fire was extinguished shortly after 8 p.m., and if investigated, it would be carried out by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
