It’s been a chaotic Christmas for many travelers across the country, including a drunken traveler who was separated from his family and left stranded at Vancouver’s airport.

but a spokesman for Vancouver International Airport The saga of Bunbun the stuffed rabbit has a happy ending, with the toy now on its way back to its young owner.

Bunbun’s story went viral after Alberta senator Paula Simmons Tweeted a picture of the rabbit which he said was found by his daughter at YVR on 20 December.

Simmons’ daughter Celia Taylor says she dropped off the bunny at guest services.

Three days later a woman replied to Simmons on Twitter to announce that Bunbun belonged to her baby son, sharing photos of the pair together and a boarding pass as evidence.

A YVR spokesperson says the airport contacted the woman and on Tuesday Bunbun was flown to family in Edmonton, where he arrived from New Zealand.

Simmons says she’s glad the story has a happy ending.

“I knew everyone at the airport was having one of the worst days ever. I really love knowing that with all the stress they were going through, the airport accepted the challenge,” Simmons said.

Taylor, whose two flights from Vancouver to Edmonton were canceled twice last week, said airport staff deserve praise for handling the travel chaos at YVR, which was triggered by last week’s heavy snowfall.

“They’ve all done more than they’ve ever done to get a bunny to the final round,” Taylor said.
