August 13, 1996, it was evening time. The white colored Maruti car of former SP MLA Jawahar Pandit was moving towards the stone church from Subhash intersection. Gulab Yadav was driving the car and Kallan Yadav was sitting in the back seat with Jawahar. There was a Tata Sumo behind. A speeding Tata Sierra came right in front of Palace Cinema and overtaking Jawahar Pandit’s car parked in front. The rear Tata Sumo stood exactly parallel to the Maruti. Ramchandra Tripathi alias Kallu came out with a weapon from Sumo. Four people from Tata Sierra. Shyam Narayan Karwaria alias Maula Maharaj, Kapil Muni Karwaria, Surajbhan Karwaria and Udaybhan Karwaria.

Rise of Jawahar Pandit

This is the reason why people started calling Jawahar as Jawahar Pandit instead of Jawahar Yadav. Jawahar had a desire to earn more money in his childhood but was not getting any chance. Won the 1993 election and saw sand
In 1991, Jawahar Pandit contested from Jhunsi seat on SP ticket and lost. But stay in the field. The result was that he won the 1993 election by a huge margin of 26,841 votes. During this leave the agreement, the dispute increased further. Jawahar Pandit pointed a rifle at Maula Maharaj. Said, “If you want, pick up your sand by helicopter, but I will not let a single truck pass through my land.”
It was only after this that Jawahar Pandit had a singular rule over the sand mines. The Karwaria family was completely out of business. But the flame of revenge was burning in his heart. Was just waiting for the right time. In 1995, there was a dispute between the SP-BSP. The government fell. President’s rule imposed. Jawahar Pandit’s security was returned. This was considered an opportunity and on August 13, 1996, Jawahar Pandit was shot dead.

4. It took 23 years to prove the guilt
Jawahar Pandit was murdered in broad daylight. A large number of people saw. But as it happens in films that people do not speak out of fear, in the same way it happened here too. Jawahar Pandit’s brother Sulaki Yadav lodged a case against Maula Maharaj, Karwaria brothers and Kallu. Maula Maharaj died a few days after the attack. Now there were four people left. Kapil Muni Karwaria said, the day Jawahar was killed, he was not even in the district. To confirm this, he put forward Kalraj Mishra.
Kalraj Mishra wrote a letter to the then Governor Romesh Bhandari that Kapil was with us the whole day. Kalraj also came to testify in the court but the court did not agree. Similarly, Udaybhan and Suraj Bhan also said but when the court asked to present the evidence, none could succeed. On 4 November 2019, the court, while pronouncing the verdict, convicted the four accused. All of them got life imprisonment.
what is the situation at the moment
After the death of Jawahar Pandit, his wife was put forward by the party. In 1996, she reached the assembly by winning the Jhunsi seat by 12 thousand votes. Won in 2002 by 18 thousand votes. Lost in 2007 and won in 2012. Lost in 2017 and is once again a candidate on SP ticket in 2022. In 2016, daughter Jyoti Yadav became the block chief from Phulpur block. But as soon as the government changed, the no-confidence motion came and he had to leave the post.
Vijma Yadav is the SP candidate from Pratappur seat. She is currently busy in the election campaign.
On the other hand, three main people of the Karwaria family are in jail for the last four years.
