Sting joins greats such as Paul McCartney to become a Fellow of The Ivors Academy

sting The Ivors are the latest songwriters to be awarded the highest honor of the Academy: Fellowship of the Academy.

The former Police singer has sold over 100 million albums in his solo and band career, making him one of the UK’s most successful artists.

He has won over seven Ivor Novellos, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

The singer follows in the footsteps of the likes of Elton John, Paul mccartney And kate bushAll of whom have received awards.

“Becoming an Academy Fellow is an honor reserved for those who have truly redefined the art and craft of music creation,” the Academy said.

Amazon Music has also been announced as the sponsor of the awards and will be commemorating the release of a special demo honoring Sting. “If This Is Love”.

Sting said, “Of all the awards in the world of music, the Ivor is the most prestigious to me.”

“Songwriting is a skilled craft and Ivors Academy is its guild.”

He continued: “I am delighted and honored to be offered this fellowship by the Academy, to join and accept this extraordinary group of fellow songwriters, and all those who went before us.”

Speaking on behalf of The Ivor Academy, Fellow Joan Armatrading MBE said: “In all of Sting’s work as a solo artist and with the iconic band The Police, he is without doubt one of Britain’s most successful songwriters and performers. One and definitely deserving of one of the most prestigious awards in the music business.

“Many congratulations on being made a Fellow of The Ivor Academy, Sting.”

The Ivor Novello Awards, named after entertainer Ivor Novello, celebrate songwriting and composition achievements.

This year’s nominees will be announced on 18 April, with winners to be announced at The Ivores with Amazon Music on 18 May at Grosvenor House, London.
