A six-year-old girl has befriended a 911 operator after calling to report her missing toys, insisting a ‘bandit’ must have taken them.
Addie Cooper, from Pell City, Alabamawas distraught when she woke up and discovered that her dollhouse, some of her Barbie dolls, and some Baby Shark stuffed animals were suddenly gone.
She searched the entire house but couldn’t find them anywhere – so when her mother, Liz Haynes, was in the shower, Addie borrowed her older sister’s cell phone and dialed 911.
Audra Owen, a grandmother who works dispatch in St. Clair County, answered the call and helped the kindergartener through her problem – and now they are ‘best friends.’

‘St. Clair County 911, what’s the address of your emergency?’ Audra began during their phone call.
The youngster replied, ‘Hello. Some of my toys are missing.’
The two chatted for a few moments about the toys before Audra asked the little girl if she knew what had happened to them.
‘I think a bandit stole them,’ she said.
The toys had not, in fact, been taken by a robber. With Christmas approaching, Addie’s mother knew the house would soon be filled with new toys, so she decided it was time to downsize and had donated the old toys to Goodwill.
But while reporting the playtime emergency, Addie hit it off with Audra and they later decided to meet in person.

The 911 operator went over to Addie’s house so that she could show off her toys – and the sweet moment was documented by local news station WVTM,
The unlikely pair chatted with the outlet about the incident, and Addie couldn’t stop gushing over her new pal.
‘She’s my best friend,’ she told them.
As for why she decided to call the police, the tot explained, ‘I looked all over the house and I couldn’t find them. I had those toys since I was four.
‘I had to tell her because it was an emergency. They’re family and if they lost each other they will never each other again.’

Addie’s mom (pictured) said she was amazed by how Audra handled it. She gushed: ‘Audra could have been ugly with me, like, “Don’t let your kids play on the phone,” but she was sweet’

‘She was just a sweet precious child that needed somebody to talk to,’ she said.
‘My job is very high stress. When I get a chance to talk to a sweet child like Addie it makes my day,’ she went on.
‘I tend to adopt all the people who come into my life as my own kids.’
Addie’s mom said she was amazed by how Audra handled the situation.
She added: ‘Audra could easily hung up or be ugly with me, like, “Don’t let your kids play on the phone,” because they have bigger things to take care of. But she was so sweet.’
Addie still doesn’t know that her mom was the one who got rid of her toys, but she was delighted to open her presents on Christmas morning and discover a new dollhouse, Barbie, and Baby Shark.
‘Did you ever see the bandit?’ the outlet asked her.
‘No,’ she replied. ‘They only come at night.’
