Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan’s action-comedy Doctor has garnered enthusiastic reviews ever since its premiere in cinemas on 9 October. Apart from the positive words, the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial is also doing well at the box office. The Sivakarthikeyan-starrer has earned Rs 24.71 crore in three days of release in India. The numbers are healthy considering that theaters are not operating at full capacity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, people are only showing interest in returning to theaters gradually as the threat of the pandemic is still huge.

Regardless of the situation, Doctor Who took off on October 9 – producers opted for a Saturday release as opposed to the traditional Friday, which gives a three-day weekend window. The film collected a total of Rs 8.81 crore on the first day and a major chunk of the earnings came from Tamil Nadu.

On Sunday, Doctor did even better and earned Rs 10.20 crore across all languages. With Monday being a working day, some drop in the collections was expected and the film earned Rs 5.23 crore from all the theatres. The average occupancy of action-comedies in Tamil Nadu cinemas was 53.14 per cent.

The gross collection of Doctor in Chennai stood at Rs 1.08 crore on Saturday, Rs 1.35 crore on Sunday and Rs 0.94 crore on Monday. With this, the gross collection for three days becomes Rs 3.37 crore. In India, where the net collection for three days is Rs 24.71 crore, the gross collection is Rs 28.70 crore.

Outside India, the film is doing really well in some major markets like the United States. The total foreign collection of the doctor in three days is Rs 6 crore. With this the worldwide collection has reached Rs 30 crore and the gross collection has crossed Rs 34 crore in just three days.
