A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police visited Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail to interrogate Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in connection with three sacrilege incidents including the theft of “Bir” of Guru Granth Sahib in Burj. Two weeks after committing Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari, the SIT on Wednesday summoned the Dera president and senior vice-president for questioning.

Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, IG and head of the SIT said that the SIT has summoned Chairperson Vipassana Insan and Senior Vice Chairperson Dr PR Nain to Ludhiana on November 26.

During interrogation of the Dera chief on 9 November, he denied his involvement in the sacrilege incidents, claiming that he had no role in the functioning or decision-making of the Dera.

The Dera chief claimed that his role was limited to conducting ‘satsang’ and publicizing the gathering of Dera followers. Parmar said the SIT has summoned the chairman and senior vice-president for further investigation into the sacrilege incidents.

It is alleged that incidents of sacrilege at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa were hatched and carried out allegedly by Dera members. Based on this, the Dera chief was made the main accused in the sacrilege incidents in July 2020.

Dera chief Sunaria is serving life term in jail after his conviction in two rape and murder cases.

Vipassana Insan and Dr PR Nain are already facing charges of conspiracy to commit violence in Panchkula in August 2017 after Ram Rahim was convicted by a special CBI court.
