Congress MP Shashi Tharoor Retweeted IAS officer Supriya Sahu’s tweet promoting eco-friendly products and urged the central government to provide incentives to increase their production.
“This applies to the entire country and not just Tamil Nadu. There are many innovations in the works that will replace plastics with recyclable, bio-degradable materials. Government of India needs to provide incentives to scale up production of such eco-friendly alternatives for daily use,” Tharoor tweeted.
The video shows food containers made of rice bran. Glass glasses of various sizes and bottles are also shown. The person seen in the video can be heard saying that it can be used only once.

The main problem with all sustainable products is the cost involved.
The government can give subsidy only up to a limit. People need to take responsibility and choose wisely.
Instead of subsidies, the government should invest in R&D to reduce costs.— Sumit Kumar (@Iam_Sumit_Kumar) December 29, 2021
very interesting. Such eco-friendly options are the need of the hour.

IAS officer Sahu asked hotels, restaurants and food joints to stop using plastic packaging banned in the state. “Food containers made from rice bran are leakproof, affordable, disposable and earth-friendly. Hotels, restaurants, food joints, time has come for you to stop using plastic packaging banned in Tamil Nadu and switch to sustainable environmental alternatives,” read Sahoo’s tweet.
Sahu, Principal Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu, Environment, Climate Change and Forest Department has been at the forefront of promoting the ‘Meendam Manjappai’ scheme. It encourages people to carry a yellow cloth bag whenever they go out to buy things.
Look at the beauty of this clay, plastic packaging options are plentiful, we need to have an open mind to discover, use and promote them. We in Tamil Nadu are intent on eliminating the single-use plastic items that have been banned. Here is the list of eco manufacturers https://t.co/EjRQV2pgPA pic.twitter.com/26uR5A5izY
