ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister’s Accountability and Internal Advisor Shahzad Akbar on Monday resigned from his post.

Talking to Twitter, Shahzad Akbar has announced, “I have submitted my resignation as advisor to the PM today.”

Akbar expressed hope that the ongoing process of accountability under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan would continue as per the manifesto of the ruling PTI.

“I will continue to be associated with the party and contribute as a member of the legal fraternity,” he said.

According to insiders, PM Imran Khan had expressed dissatisfaction over his performance two weeks ago.

Akbar, a former deputy prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability in August 2018.

In July 2020, the barrister was promoted and made an advisor to the prime minister on accountability and the interior, with the status of a federal minister.

‘Now more important work awaits you’

Commenting on the resignation, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry praised Akbar’s services as an advisor to the PM on accountability and internal affairs.

He said, “You worked under tremendous pressure, it was never easy to compete with the mafia but the way you worked and handled matters is commendable.”

Pointing to a new task for Shahzad Akbar in the government, Fawad Chaudhry has said that “more important work” awaits you now.
