Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said “very hot and humid conditions” are expected to last through Wednesday, with temperatures reaching at least 30 degrees in the afternoon and Humdex near 40.

“Right now, it looks like thunderstorms will begin over Georgian Bay and Lake Huron in the mid-afternoon and as they move eastward into southern Ontario and into GTA by evening.”

Farnell said that developing storms are expected to include damaging winds, hail and frequent lightning.

“These storms are also likely to turn around and turn into hurricanes,” he said.

“We are coming out of a very calm period with very few storms in southern Ontario, but that is likely to change on Wednesday.”

Farnell noted that if conditions point to the development of severe storms, Environment Canada will issue severe weather watches, followed by warnings if the storm develops.
