Severe cold warnings, advisories issued for Eastern Ontario | globalnews.ca

Much of eastern and central-eastern Ontario is bracing for more cold weather Fog, freezing wind And it starts freezing rain.

Environment Canada issued a variety of warnings and advisories for various parts of the province, from the York and Durham regions to Prescott-Russell, Ottawa and Algonquin in the east.

Freezing rain warnings were issued for seven areas including Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes and Stirling-Tweed-South Frontenac.

“Heavy to very heavy rain is expected this late evening and overnight,” said the warning issued from 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. “Light snow accretion is possible on some surfaces.”

Freezing rain is expected to turn into light rain and drizzle by Wednesday morning.

Drizzle is in the forecast for many areas from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. Algonquin, Ottawa, Cornwall-Morrisburg and Halliburton are all under advisories.

Meanwhile, according to Environment Canada, areas including York-Durham and Belleville-Quente-Northumberland are under fog advisories, where people can expect “close to zero visibility in dense fog”.

“Visibility is expected to improve from west to east tonight,” the advisory said. “Fog may subside in areas of higher elevations.”
