Satyendra Jain started Kovid Rapid Response Center

Health Minister Satyendar Jain inaugurated a COVID-19 Rapid Response Center at Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital on Wednesday as part of the Delhi government’s effort to prepare for a possible third COVID wave.

The centre, working round the clock, has been set up to ensure immediate treatment to the COVID patients. It is equipped with ICU and ventilator. The minister said that the aim of the center is to provide emergency care to COVID patients without waiting for hospitalisation.

More such centers will be set up in various hospitals to make emergency response more efficient. Jain said the government was trying to improve government hospitals to prepare for the third wave.

“The center will ensure immediate treatment on arrival of patients without waiting for admission, and the patient will later be shifted to the respective ward based on their condition,” he said.

He also urged people to be vigilant and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour. “We should not let go of our guard even when the cases have come down. We should learn from our experience that any negligence can lead to disaster,” said Jain.

The acute shortage of beds and oxygen supply during the second COVID wave caused delays in hospital admissions and treatment, with patients waiting outside the gates or shuttles from one hospital to another for treatment.
