The fee comes after the airport introduced a dedicated commercial curb for taxis in 2019 to help transport passengers.
The money helps with the development, maintenance and enforcement of Curb.
A bylaw prevents that fee, which is currently $2 per trip, from being added to metered taxi fares, but not flat rate fares.
The administration is recommending to include that fee in the metered fare as well.

CJ Dushinski, Skyxe’s vice president of business development and service quality, says the fee is competitive with other airports, and that even Uber drivers pay that fee.
“I think the reason I am going before City Council is that we have been working with the City since the implementation of the travel fee since 2019, just to make sure things are consistent and fair for all of our commuters and users. are transparent, and taxi drivers and operators,” Dushinsky said.
Matt Grazier, director of community standards with the city, says that taxi operators have seen several increases in operating costs over the years, and passing this fee to customers is a small step in reducing some of those costs.
“Out of the six or seven cities that we looked at, we found that this is a very common practice for other cities and their airports,” Grazier said.
