Sanjay Raut apologizes to Chandrakant Patil in seven days, otherwise threatens to go to court

Shiv Sena Sanjay Raut, leader and executive editor of party mouthpiece Saamana, issued a legal notice on Friday. BJP State President Chandrakant Patil commented on his remarks linking him and his wife to the PMC Bank scam.

Raut has given Patil seven days to tender an unconditional apology in Saamana and has threatened to move court if he fails to do so.
“I have issued a legal notice to Chandrakantadada Patil for derogatory, baseless and bogus remarks against me and my wife. If Chandrakant Dada does not give an unconditional apology, I will take further legal action and move the honorable court,” Raut said in a tweet.

In the notice issued through advocate Vikrant Sabne, Raut has asked Patil to clarify the facts in seven days, failing which he will move the court. However, he has not mentioned any amount in respect of damages caused by defamation in the notice.

Last month, Raut had said that he would file a defamation suit against Patil, seeking damages of only Rs 1.25 for making false allegations against him and his wife. Earlier in the editorial of Saamana, Patil and the BJP were accused of misusing the central investigative agencies. Patil had sent a letter replying to the editorial – which was published in Saamana – alleging that Raut and his wife had received Rs 50 lakh in the PMC Bank scam case.

After this, Raut had said that the allegations were baseless and said that he would issue a legal notice of Rs 1.25. Taunting Raut, Patil advised him to increase the amount.
