GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition Devvrat Saikia has filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner against Assam Minister Ashok Singhal for alleged violation of the model code of conduct ahead of the by-elections in the state. In a letter to the CEC on October 24, Saikia said Singhal was involved in “unconstitutional activities”. PTI
HC grants interim relief to Vijayvargiya
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted interim protection to BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya, Jisnu Basu and Pradeep Joshi on their plea for anticipatory bail in connection with the “assault” on a woman. Her lawyers said the woman had initially filed two assault complaints and later moved a lower court alleging sexual harassment. PTI
