The Karnataka Transport Department on Sunday night seized seven luxury cars, including a Rolls Royce of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
However, it was later revealed that the Bengaluru-based realtor, who bought the luxury car from Amitabh Bachchan, had not registered the vehicle in his name.
The officials have asked the current owner Babu to produce the required documents and release the vehicle.
The Transport Department launched a drive near the upscale UB City area in Bengaluru for non-payment of taxes, not having proper documentation and insurance.
Babu, the current owner of the car and owner of Umrah Developers, said, “I have directly bought this Rolls-Royce by paying Rs 6 crore to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan. I had bought the vehicle though it was old as it belonged to the actor in 2019. I have applied for change of name for registration but somehow it could not happen. “
“We have two Rolls Royce cars. Another one is new. My kids take Amitabh Bachchan’s car on Sundays and holidays. My daughter was traveling in the car when it was seized. The officials have asked him to come to the RTO office located at Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city. He had requested them to drop him home, they are obliged,” he said.
“I spoke to the transport commissioner and told him not to disturb us unnecessarily. He said that there are many cars plying in the city with the same registration number and they are keeping a watch on it. He asked us to produce valid documents and get the car released. I will do that,” explained Babu.
Additional Commissioner of Transport Department Narendra Holkar said that the Rolls-Royce car has been confiscated due to lack of proper documents. The owner presented a letter signed by Amitabh Bachchan stating that the vehicle was being sold to him.
Incidentally, the person at the wheel at the time of the seizure of the car was the driver, whose name is Salman Khan. IANS
