India vs Pakistan will again be at the top of every other news platform when these two arch-rivals will be up against each other in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2022 which begins on August 27. The second game of the tournament will be the mother of all conflict with these two teams starting their campaign in the continental tournament. Nevertheless, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting had revealed his choice when asked about the likely winners.
Now, he had explained the rationale for choosing India as winners.
Moreover, when asked about his impressions about this great rivalry, he said that he has always compared India vs Pakistan to Australia vs England, which is confined to the Ashes.
“To be completely honest when I think about it (India vs Pakistan), it’s the one that makes us go hungry, isn’t it? Looking back on the last 15 or 20 years, for obvious reasons. I am sure it means more to the players of these two countries. But you know I think Australia-England, Ashes is the pinnacle of cricket and I’m sure Indians and Pakistanis would say the same thing about their rivalry that Test matches are the pinnacle of cricket,” Ponting told the ICC’s YouTube channel.
“But as a cricket lover and a cricket observer at any point in time, it’s almost always good to sit back and watch as it takes everything up a notch, isn’t it?” He added.
Coming back to his choice, when he was asked about the winners of the India vs Pakistan conflict, he replied:
“You put me there on the spot. No, look like I said, I said that India will win the Asia Cup, so I will be with India to win that match against Pakistan. I mean nothing from Pakistan Because they are an incredible cricketing nation who constantly produce superstar players.As we know they have had a tough run in the last 20 years due to not playing much cricket at home.
“Looks like this too is slowly starting to turn. Yes, but India’s ability to make big games of cricket in big tournaments and stand out and win is something that is worth watching. So, I think India narrows down. Roop will win,” he signed off.
