TORONTO – Fred VanVleet says his recent social media activity has nothing to do with his shooting slump.

toronto raptors The guard unfollowed his teammates on Instagram this week, but VanVleet laughed it off after Wednesday’s 126-113 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I unfollowed my mom too, she didn’t care about that part,” VanVleet said with a laugh.

VanVleet said he was trying to “fight the algorithm” after seeing several suggested accounts on his feed.

He said, “I’m going up and down my feed, there’s so many things I’m not following, it’s just suggestions, suggestions, suggestions, so stupid, let’s unfollow everyone and see Does it help,” he said. “It didn’t help, someone got wind of it, and said oh, I unfollowed all my friends.”

“That’s it, nothing more, nothing less man,” he said. “It’s going to take more than a few bad shooting games to make me lose my mind.”

VanVleet has been in a slump, shooting just 3-for-12 from three-point range against LA, and averaging 18.7 percent from long range over the past five games.

He said, as a public figure, he would be more mindful of his social media activity, but reprimanded a good-natured reporter who asked about his Instagram on Wednesday night, “You’re breaking my heart, bro.”
