Raiders, Bengals trying to end long playoff drought – India Times English News

Cincinnati: Either the Raiders or the Bengals will win a playoff game on Saturday, and that would be news in itself.

Post-season success has been elusive for both teams for a generation. The disappointment, for one, will end on Saturday when they meet in Cincinnati for an early-round playoff game.

The Raiders’ most recent postseason win was 19 years ago, a conference championship before losing to Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl. Since then, he has managed only one playoff appearance, one and one wild-card game after the 2016 season.

The Bengals face significant pressure to end their long playoff win drought.

Cincinnati is in the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, but has not dropped out of the opening round since the 1990 season.

The Bengals defeated the Houston Oilers in a wild-card round on January 6, 1991, and lost to the Raiders the following week.

Cincinnati stayed together for 15 more years before coming back in 2005. It has since failed to win seven postseason Tours, including five straight from 2011 to 2015.

That’s what we hear all the time, said Cincinnati record-breaking rookie receiver Jammer Chase.

We’re not worried about that, quarterback Joe Burroughs insisted.

The Bengals (10-7) won the AFC North with Chase as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 draft and other young stars, the top overall draft pick in 2020, behind the ineffective Burrow.

Running back Joe Mixon ran over 1,500 yards and got the combined. In 2020, second rounder T Higgins had 1,091 receiving yards.

(The attackers) have to be ready for everything, Burrow said. “We have that mix and that offensive line that can get people into the run game, and it’s a big part of who we are as an offense and as a team. So teams have to prepare for that.” Plus the freak shows we’ll be out.

The Raiders (10-7) had to deal with several troubling off-the-field issues this season.

Coach John Gruden has resigned after racist, anti-gay and anti-women comments were leaked in an email. Receiver Henry Rugs III was hacked after being charged with a DUI that resulted in his death. Defensive back Damon Arnett was released after a social-media video showed a 2020 first-round pick with multiple guns endangering someone’s life.

Under interim head coach Rich Biccia, the Raiders won their final four games, deciding four points or less each, and snatched the wild-card spot with an overtime win over the Chargers in the season finale.

I think we’ve tried to develop a group of men who care about each other, know what to do and compete tirelessly. Plus, once they become one—learning to respect the other’s work—it’s a pleasant place to come to work and respond to whatever adversity or whatever prosperity you see that day. For, it gives you a chance to make your mark through those things. Gives opportunities that you pass by.

rematch

Cincinnati went back to Las Vegas in Week 11 and defeated the Raiders 32-13. The Bengals suffered two defeats and a by-week, and this victory helped them get back on track. Powerful walks from Defense and Mixon made the difference.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said, they are super talented, well trained. I thought we didn’t do our best. But at the same time I don’t want to take anything from them because they beat us up. And he did a good job of stopping us and getting the ball out of us.

run for daylight

Running back Josh Jacobs gave the Raiders a big boost at the end of his season to win four games. After struggling for most of the season behind a poor offensive line, Jacobs has delivered two of his best games during this recent stretch. He hit a career-high with 129 yards in a Week 16 win over Denver and then topped the playoff-clinching final against the Chargers with 132 yards.

record drop

In addition to being back in the playoffs, the 2021 Bengals broke single-season team records. Chase had the most yards ever (1,455) for a Cincinnati receiver. Burrow broke game records with passing yards (4,611), touchdowns (34), passer rating (108.3) and more than 300 passing yards (six). Rookie Evan McPherson’s 58-yard field goal in Denver on December 19 was a new team record.

under pressure

The Raiders’ strength throughout the season has been a defensive line that has generated constant pressure under the leadership of Max Crosby and Yannick Ngakou for the lead at quarterback. According to Pro Football Focus, Crosby led the NFL under pressure of 101, and Ngakou had a team-high 10 sacks. Now they get a chance to compete against a Bengals line that allowed the third most sacks in the league with 51.
