Rafael Nadal tests positive for COVID-19 after return to Abu Dhabi

Nadal, who did not have a confirmed version of Covid-19, was returning from injury at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships exhibition event in Abu Dhabi last week.

It was Nadal’s first tournament since the Citi Open in Washington in August.

In a Twitter thread, the 35-year-old said that he had tested positive for the virus after a PCR test on his return to Spain.

Nadal said he had tested negative all the time in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi and last tested negative on Friday.

Nadal wrote, “I am experiencing some unpleasant moments but I hope to improve a little bit. I am now confined at home and have informed all those who have been in contact with me.”

“As a result of the situation I will have to have complete flexibility with my calendar and analyze my options based on my progress. I will keep you informed of any decisions regarding my future tournaments,” Nadal said.

The first Grand Slam of the 2022 season is Australian Open, Which is starting from 17th January.
