R Hari Kumar to be the next Navy Chief

The government on Tuesday night announced that it has appointed Western Naval Commander Vice Admiral R. Hari Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief of the Indian Navy.

He will be effective from the afternoon of 30 November when Admiral Karambir Singh, the current Chief of the Indian Navy, retires from service.

Born on April 12, 2962, Vice Admiral R. Hari Kumar was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy in January 1983.

He has served in various command, staff and instructional appointments.

Vice Admiral R. Hari Kumar’s C command includes INS Nishank, Missile Corvette, INS Kora and Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranvir. He also commanded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
