Punjabi writer Sultana Begum passes away

In a major setback to Punjabi literature, the demise of renowned Punjabi writer and poetess Sultana Begum, who died after a brief illness at a private hospital in Mohali on Saturday.

Begum was born in 1949. After completing her master’s degree in Punjabi and Urdu, she did her PhD in Indian theater followed by a diploma in Persian language. Before retirement she was working in Punjab Board of School Education, Mohali.

Punjab Higher Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare expressed grief over his death and said that it is an irreparable loss to Punjabi literature.

His autobiography “Katra Katra Zindagi” was a well read and critically acclaimed book. His unique writing style was well expressed in his Punjabi book ‘Shugufe’ which became very popular.
