  • Punjab government will give Diwali gift, cabinet meeting today; Possible to decide on cheap or free electricity; CM Channi said, the decision will be historic

The state government will give the gift of Diwali to Punjab today. For this, a cabinet meeting has been called at around 2.30 pm. In this, a decision can be taken regarding cheap or free electricity. Earlier, CM Charanjit Channi said that it will be a historic decision. It can be announced after the cabinet meeting at 4 pm. CM Charanjit Channi himself will give information about this by holding a press conference. After the CM’s claim, now the eyes of the opposition parties are also on this.

At present, except one or two close ministers, no one is aware of the CM’s claim. The CM had discussed this with senior ministers a few days ago. It is discussed that 300 units of free electricity or 3 to 5 rupees per unit can be announced in every house.

Decision on BSF and agriculture law also

If sources are to be believed, the new law regarding the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) can be approved in the cabinet meeting. The Central Government increased the BSF’s radius by 50 km from the border. Despite the CM’s letter, the Center is firm on this decision. The government can stop or cancel this notification of the Center by bringing a new law.

The second is the Agricultural Reform Act. The state can bring its own law to repeal it outright. Apart from this, the state can bring its new law. In which the issue of giving pension to farmers above 60 years of age is also being discussed. CM Channi has also sought the opinion of United Kisan Morcha in this regard.

Big reason for Sidhu’s displeasure

The issue of electricity is also a major reason for Congress President Navjot Sidhu’s displeasure in Punjab. Sidhu had promised 3 to 5 rupees per unit of electricity by canceling the wrong power agreement. After this, the Channi government has given notice to terminate the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of GVK Thermal Plant at Goindwal Sahib. Earlier, the government has waived 1200 crore electricity bills up to 2 kW. The arrears of sewerage-water bills in cities have also been waived off. With this decision, Congress will again include Sidhu in the party’s campaign in Punjab.
