In October last year, Amarinder Singh announced the launch of his own party after the Congress asked him to step down as the Chief Minister of Punjab. His party will contest next month in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (United) led by former Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. While the alliance is yet to announce its final seat arrangement, Punjab Lok Congress will release its first list on Sunday as announced by Amarinder Singh.

Meanwhile, the BJP has already announced its first list of 34 candidates late on Friday night.

Amarinder Singh has been winning from Patiala since 2002 and his victory from Patiala again in 2017 ensured that the Congress government is formed in Punjab.

Many Congress party legislators who were seen as loyal to Amarinder Singh, however, did not cross over and remained with the Congress, the few exceptions being Gurmit Singh Sodhi, a former minister in his cabinet, who also resigned from the Congress. and joined.
