Presidential election: JMM foils Yashwant Sinha’s campaign

New Delhi, June 24

An un-committed JMM and a sharp JD(S) seem to have foiled the plans to launch the campaign of opposition presidential election candidate Yashwant Sinha.

Sinha was to launch the campaign from Jharkhand and meet the ruling JMM and RJD legislators.

But with the JMM turning to NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu and a formal call on the issue at a party meeting on Saturday, Sinha has decided to wait.

Moreover, JDS chief and former PM HD Deve Gowda’s description of Murmu as a “suitable candidate” has added to the concerns of the opposition camp.

BJP President JP Nadda personally called Deve Gowda today. The BJP is also in touch with the JMM, which it feels has a commitment to Murmu, a former state governor and a senior tribal leader.

Sinha was supposed to start his campaign from Jharkhand, but decided to wait for the JMM’s final decision on which way he would go.
